Guest blogs by my friends #1 | Movie recommendations for the holidays!
For the holidays I asked my friends whether they would like to write a guest blog for my blog, and most of them replied very enthusiasticly =) From some of them – you know who you are! – I haven’t received anything back yet, but hopefully they’ll change their mind 😉 My friends are all really, really great and therefore I decided they deserve a place here as well. I asked them all to write about their ‘favourites’, about something that is really representative for them as a person. Today we start with Roanne, I know her from university and she turned out to be a greaaat friend, more often than not I can be found at her place on Tuesday’s to watch series or movies and she is always there for me. In addition, she also takes almost all the pictures for the blog, so give it up for her! Roanne, thanks for being such a great friend 🙂
Marle asked me to write an article with some ‘movie suggestions’, since (you could say) I’m a bit of a movie addict. Plus it is almost Christmas(!), best time to sit down, relax, with hot chocolate within one’s reach, and of course a movie. Of course there are a lot of well-known great movies, but I’m going to try to come up with some movies that you might not know.
A movie about a rich investment broker who inherits a vineyard in France from his uncle. In France he discovers a new sort of life, and he meets a woman. Why is this movie different from all other romance/ comedy movies? Because of Russell Crowe, who is a magnificent actor, the jokes are really nice and not cheesy, and the beautiful scenery. After seeing this movie one of my dreams became; “Having a vineyard in France (together with Russell Crowe).” Oh and please listen to “Wisdom – Marc Streitenfeld”, it is a lovely soundtrack.
IMDB rating: 6.8/10.0
Another movie with Russell Crowe. This movie is based on a true story, which in my opinion adds something extra to how you experience the movie. The movie is about James Braddock (a boxing champion) who is trying to earn his money and to take care of his family with boxing. Beautiful story that shows the love of a father for his childs.
IMDB rating: 8.0/ 10.0
Starring at Eric Bana (Troy) and Rachel McAdams (The Notebook). The movie is about a man who is a time traveller, but cannot control it. He meets his wife when she is a kid, while he already knows that he is going to marry her. As you can imagine his disappearing without a sign brings a lot of problems. In my opinion, a one of a kind movie.
IMDB rating: 7.1/10.0
Some quick recommendations without any explanation:
– Beastly: a modern-day take on the “Beauty and the Beast” (5.1/10)
– August Rush: an orphaned child uses his gift to find his birth parents (7.4/10)
The lazy Sonny Koufax (Adam Sandler) adopts a kid to impress his girlfriend. But he ends up educating the kid several things (stress on several!) and starting to love him. I don’t know if everyone like this movie, but I have watched it since my childhood when videotapes still existed. And I still LOVE it!
IMDB rating: 6.1/10.0
Saving Private Ryan
A lot of people in my ‘environment’ only heard of this movie, but never took the effort to watch it OR had the ‘excuse’ that they didn’t like action movies. Well I think and would almost say oblige you to see this movie once in your life! It’s about the Second World War and a group of soldiers who are going behind enemy lines to save a paratrooper. This movie should be part of your ‘education’.
IMDB rating: 8.5/10.0
Based on a true story! How do you survive when you get stuck with your arm under a boulder? How do you survive when nobody knows where you are, and the last two people you have seen are two girls? Every Second Counts. Aaron Ralston (James Franco) has to take some desperate measures to survive.
IMDB rating: 7.8/10.0
Everything in this movie makes me smile, the songs, the characters, the jokes, even the ‘scary, badass mother’ is funny. The movie is about Rapunzel by the way and all the things she experiences after she left the tower in which she stayed 16 years.
IMDB rating: 7.8/10
Bradley Cooper, do you need another reason to watch this movie? I know it is kind of girly to say this, but he is so extremely handsome! The movie is about an amazing drug that gives you the possibility to use 100% of your brain, while normal people can only use 20%. Can you imagine that this would be actually possible in real life? Would be so cool!
IMDB rating: 7.3/10.0
Some quick recommendations:
– Taken: a former spy needs to use his skills to save his daughter from slave trade. (7.9/10)
– Takers: a group of bank robbers find their plan interrupted by a detective. Movie with a lot of action and some nice ‘material’ for the girls! (5.9/10)
– The next three days: a husband trying to save his wife who is accused of murder. (7.4/10)
